Invitation No. 2 - Thinking of You
Welcome to what we are calling our Invitations! Each month, I’ll be sharing an invitation—something simple, intentional, and totally doable.
Something we can each do in our own lives that, together, creates a ripple effect.
Whether you’re here because you joined Cheering You On or you’re simply a kind soul who wants to spread a little more goodness into the world, I am so glad you’re here.

Invitation No. 2: Thinking of You
When I first started Cheering You On, a few people asked me if my letters would help someone who was walking through grief.
My first reaction was, “I don’t know.” I wasn’t sure how a letter could help someone through something so heavy.
When I hear someone has lost a loved one, I often find myself freezing. I don’t know what to say. I don’t want to say the wrong thing or make their pain worse. I second guess myself because I don’t have the perfect words to say.
But then I thought about what people said to me when my Grandma Lucy, my favorite person in the world, passed away four years ago.

And what I remembered most were three simple words: "Thinking of you."
During a time when my heart was aching, those words hit home. They were small reminders and little hugs that helped me feel like I wasn’t alone.
So maybe there is no one perfect thing to say. But we can say something.
Connection matters. Especially to the people we care most about.
What to do
So here is where Invitation No. 2 comes in—for both me and for you. I’m inviting us to reach out, even when the words aren’t perfect.

It can be as simple as:
“Thinking of You” or “No words. Just hugs.”
That’s it.
Because I bet I’m not alone in getting frustrated with ourselves when we let too much time go by without saying something.
So let’s keep it simple. That way overthinking can’t cloud our thoughts and prevent us from reaching out to someone who we care about.
“Thinking of you today, my friend.”
Examples
If you’re someone who wants to say a little more, below are a few examples that might feel right for you.
“I just heard the news. I’m thinking of you and sending you so much love.”
“I don’t have the right words, but I want you to know I’m here and I’m thinking of you.”
“I’ve been thinking about you today. No need to respond—I just wanted you to know you’re loved.”
“I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m holding you close in my thoughts and sending you love.”
“I was thinking about you and [their loved one’s name] today. Sending you love.”

Remember: you don’t need perfect words. A simple ‘I’m thinking of you’ can be more touching than we realize.
So my encouragement to you today: Don’t overthink it. Send the message.
And for those of my snail mail friends who have the punch card that came in your letter, use those spots as ways to remind yourself that those are five souls that you’re touching 💕

A Gift For You To Share
To help make this invitation even easier, I created a few little cards you can download, print and use when someone you care about is grieving. Because sometimes having something ready to go is the little nudge we need to reach out.

INCLUDED ARE:
- 3 cards: Thinking of You, No words. Just hugs., and With heartfelt sympathy.
- 3 gift tags in case your love language is baking or gifting — add a little gift tag
-
3 digital versions if texting or emailing feels like the best way to reach out

Add your email here, so I can send you the designs that you can use whenever you need them.
And remember: It’s not about the perfect words.
It’s about human connection.
Cheering you on,
